Hiking the Barranco de Masca is no longer a turn-up-and-go walk. Since it reopened under new management, every hiker needs a pre-booked time slot. Here’s how it works.
The rules at a glance
| Item | What you need to know |
|---|---|
| Booking | Mandatory time slot via the official portal, caminobarrancodemasca.com |
| Price | Non-resident bundle listed from €40.66 (2026), including trail entry, helmet and insurance |
| Boat | Masca beach → Los Gigantes is obligatory and booked separately |
| Transport | Official portal currently points to Titsa bus 355 from Santiago del Teide |
| Footwear | Closed hiking shoes required; unsuitable footwear can mean refused entry |
| Check-in | Arrive about 30 minutes before your slot for document and equipment checks |
| Closures | The trail can close for weather alerts or rockfall risk |
Step by step
- Choose a date and time slot on the official portal.
- Book the boat from Masca beach to Los Gigantes for the same day.
- Plan transport to Masca village (bus or transfer) and back from Los Gigantes.
- Pack properly: hiking shoes, 1.5–2 litres of water, sun protection, snacks.
- Check the portal the day before in case of closures.

Or let a guide handle it
Guided hikes bundle the permit, transfers and boat, with a guide setting a safe pace. For most visitors on a short holiday, it removes all the logistics.
